Itinerary
Wednesday
At 18.00 meeting the guide at Helsinki railway station. At 18.27 depart from Helsinki railway station by Tolstoi- train for Tver. There is a restaurant car in the train. Possible to have dinner. Money exchange in the train between Kouvola and Vainikkala.
Thursday
At 6.30 arrive at Tver. Transfer to the hotel, where check-in after breakfast. Free time for a rest. At noon guided tour in Tver city visiting the convent and the church of St Catherine. Lunch in the convent. After lunch a local river boat to Orsha convent in the country side. It was first founded in the 15th century, closed during Soviet time and reopened in the beginning of 1990´s. Guided tour in the convent. Transfer by bus to the hotel, where dinner.
Friday
Breakfast. Depart for Karelian villages. On the way a visit the old town called Torshok. It was founded before Moscow and was the capital of the Eastern principalities. There were many churches and monasteries in the town. We visit the monastery of St Boris and Gleb and the church of Archangel Michael. Possiblility for shopping in the embroidery and linen shop. Drive continues to Kozlovo, where check-in the families. Traditional Karelian sauna and dinner. Evening entertainmant with local people at the library of Kozlovo.
Saturday
Breakfast. Visit the village church, which is dedicated to Saint Aleksander, who was canonised three years ago. He was the last priest in this parish before the Revolution. The tour continues through the villages. At Vasilki we meet the the poet Mr Tarasov, where he presents the most interesting places of his own village, Bear River, orthodox chapel and old mounds. Again the tour continues to Stuano village, where lunch in Karelian families. Possible to swim in Bear River. Tour in Porkovskij church.
In the evening arrive at Tver, where possible to make shopping. Dinner. Night train at 00.40 from Tver to Helsinki.
