Old Valamo
The island of Valamo on the lake Ladoga is a beautiful fairytale in the middle of the pure nature, where in the heart of it is fascinating Valamo monastery. So it has been for ages and still is. Monastery has been destroed several times in the past, but always it has grown from ashes into its beauty and glory.

Today Valamo monastery lives its great glory and beauty. Churches and sketes have been built again, decorated with gold, silver and beautiful paintings. Pilgrims have found this holy place and they arrive like swallows every summer to honour its holy icons and relics of Valamo founders Saint Sergy and Herman, to pray in front of the icon of Our Lady of Valamo for health and peace.
We have one, two and three day tours to Valamo. They depart and end in Joensuu and are made by an own coach and tour leader to Sortavala. Monastery hydrofoil will take you from Sortavala to Valamo.
